Omolade Akinkunmi - NBO Facilitator
Hi, My name is Omolade Akinkunmi and I am a Pre Employment Workshop facilitator with ISIS, working specifically on the IPSO project. Learner engagement is one of my career passions and I have had the privilege of working and learning with immigrant learners over the last few years. Apart from interacting with learners, I also enjoy “playing” with online learning tools. My pastime includes select reality TV shows, travelling (I haven’t done enough of that!) and when time permits I enjoy some “me” time with fictional novels, my favorite authors been Nora Roberts and Danielle Steele. …cheers.

Mark Larson - Coordinator, New Beginnings Online

I have worked at Immigrant Settlement & Integration Services (ISIS) for eight years. I am a teacher and have taught grades 7, 8, & 9 and began my career working with newcomers to Nova Scotia as assistant ESL teacher. I began at ISIS part-time as a Computer Lab Instructor providing instruction in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint and also using computers to assist with English as a Second Language learning. I also taught ISIS clients how to use the Internet and email. In less than a year I was working full time; teaching, helping clients with their job search and maintaining all the computers at ISIS. I’ve been the Coordinator of the New Beginnings Online project for the last three years and have had a wonderful time facilitating the online workshops. I’m originally from Nova Scotia but have lived and worked in a number of different places in Canada. I’ve been in almost every province in Canada!
Muhammad Naz - ESL Instructor

I am an ESL instructor with more than 20 years of experience in teaching English in diverse situations. For me, education and learning are ways of living, and I’m always keen to upgrade my learning with a continuous professional development. I facilitate language learning through learning strategies of clients’ choice and convenience. I also believe in empowering learners by providing positive feedback and stretching their abilities beyond their actual competencies. The online learning digital environment has improved my understanding of learners’ dynamic situations. Adjusting facilitation to the individual needs of learners in this environment helps in everyday situations.
I live in Nova Scotia. In my free time, I watch movies, read books, watch soccer games, and travel to different places.
Shazia Nawaz - ESL Instructor

My name is Shazia and I am an ESL instructor by profession. I have over 16 years of experience of teaching English in diverse backgrounds to the learners from different cultural and lingual environments. I did my Master‘s degree in Teaching English to the Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) from University of Manchester, UK. I did my teachers training certification CELTA (Certificate of English Language Teaching to Adults) from University of Cambridge in Dubai. Online teaching is what I am interested in, and I feel this is the new era of learning. I enjoy what I do for living, and whatever time I have left after being an online ESL instructor and a mother of three, I watch movies and listen to music. I like to travel, too.
Andrea Purchase - ESL Instructor

Hello Everyone! I’m an ESL instructor at Immigrant Settlement and Integration Services (ISIS). I teach the English in the Workplace program (EWP) both face-to-face and online. I’ve taught ESL since 2001 both overseas and here in Halifax, Nova Scotia. I’ve taught EWP at ISIS since 2008.
In my free time I enjoy camping, hiking and golfing in the summer and skiing in the winter. Halifax is my home city, but I live outside the city near Peggy’s Cove. .
Sarah Sampara - ESL Online Developer/Instructor

Hello. I’ve been teaching online for quite a few years now. I have taught online classes both to clients throughout Nova Scotia and throughout the world. Both experiences have enriched my view of online teaching and have probably taught me as much about online learning as I have taught my clients about English.
Now while I love online teaching and the interaction I have with my clients, I also love creating online courses. So, if you don’t find me teaching a class, I’m probably working on creating a new one.

Julianna Sherriff - ESL Instructor

Hi, I’m an ESL Instructor for Immigrant Settlement and Integration Services (ISIS). I currently teach English in the Workplace both face-to-face and online. Prior to working for ISIS I taught EFL in Madrid, Spain, while studying Spanish. This gave me the opportunity to learn about another culture while working and studying. I have a passion for lifelong learning and nature.
